Don: Points- Original-Modern-Electronic Ignition

Electronic ignition engine runs hotter.  Modern points idle smoother and have a hotter  spark which last a long time, 10,000 miles Engine will run cooler if you go to full spark advance and you can also reduce the gas control valve to just off its valve seat while idling (parades).

For cooler operating engines, drain a little coolant out and add Radiator Relief which never hurts the engine. A thermostat is a good addition to keep the engine running cool.
